Stanley Unlimited was put on the injured reserve today after experiencing a freak accident on the superpipe of kirkwood ski resort. At the time of the accident, stanley was attempting a 720 when shaun white, who apparently did not know the definition of one person on the superpipe at one time, collided with him. The resulting collision caused stanley to crash which caused him to suffer a separated shoulder. Later, he was quoting stating that "I know now how Clinton Portis felt [after his injury] earlier in the season", refering the star running back of the washington redskins.

Stanley will take 4-6 weeks to heal.

(Just kidding about the shaun white thing.. but i did get a separated shoulder snowboarding.)

So watched 3 movies during the weekend..

Lady in the water--- I always get shocked/surprised by sudden scenes that M.Night does.. but the script was crap..
There is one scene though where the door starts to close and then for a sudden... before the door closes... a wolf comes out. He is the only director that I actually get scared!

Devil wears Prada--- I wonder if the fashion industry is really like this. I hear its actually based on a book. But I guess there are many parallels in real life.. like the better you do in work.. the worse your personal life becomes. I was thinking about this.. i guess in work life.. there are rewards.. bonuses.. the feeling that you are doing something irreplaceable.. when in reality your personal life is where you are irreplaceable.

Okay... so its been a long day... I missed my flight from OAK to IAD this morning. the only available flight left is a redeye with a layover in JFK for about an hour. I really feel like crap right now.... I got this huge migraine, that just comes from not sleeping enough.(I am writing this in JFK)

On a side note... I beat Zelda Twlight Princess yesterday.. jeez it was a super long game.. Considering the last real zelda game that I played with Legend of Zelda on the NES... i was utterly impressed with how much Zelda has come along. Everything from the first zelda is a part of this game.. Though I heard that Majora's mask, Ocarina of Time are very similiar to Twilight Princess.

I have also grown quite attached to my mac now. I tried to use my thinkpad the other day and found myself trying to do the two finger scroll and two finger blackclick.

I also like the feel of the keyboard better on a mac than a thinkpad. maybe i am just really use to it now. though I must confess I still use Parallels with windows.. (two finger scroll works in that)

So in all seriousness, I didnt buy a gallardo..(i wouldn't be able to park it anywhere, and plus it would breakdown on the way from the dealership).

But here is what I did buy!
1) A Meat temperature thermometer...
Finally I'll be able to make those perfect medium rare prime ribs.. no more slicing and dicing it.. I'll also finally be able to make great chicken.. yes it still alludes me til this day..

2) A whisk!
So this will make me cook pancakes a lot more, since a big deterrent to me is making me break out my 6 quart kitchen aid mixer.

3)A Food Injector!
WHy would I need this? to make barbecue legs.. Im tired of having to soak the chicken in hot sauce and then waiting for a few hours for the flavor to transfer... Instead now I can just inject it right into the chicken!

hmm thats about it... well im pretty happy with my kitchen utensils.

So Recently I just ordered netflix, and have been watching quite a number of movies that I have always wanted to watch but never could. Here are some of my recommendations:

The Greatest Game Ever Played - The true story about a golfer who against all odds plays golf. I found the directing to be excellent. The story sped up and slowed down at just the right places. The director has a very creative way to portray the game of golf through the eyes of the people playing it.

The Great Robot Race - a Documentary about the true robot race held in the desert. CMU, Stanford, and other teams all build robots to win this race. Being from CMU, and having the opportunity to work on the GM collaborative project, I did enjoy seeing CMU make a strong showing. I wonder if my feeling concerning the CMU robot is similiar to rooting for a football team from a good school like USC, or UT.

BattleStar Galactica, the Miniseries - This is a reimagining of the original Battlestar Galactica. BG (battlestar galactica) does a great job of portraying real people in space. I think BG makes for more interesting episodes than Star Trek. Star Trek has this "Disney"-esque, in that the villians, and the good guys are very clearly defined. They do experiment with some character evolution but its not prevalent. In BG, the characters are a lot more complex, and that makes their interactions with each other a lot more interesting. Star Trek always likes to re-show the "I want to be human" character juxtaposed against real humans. Im talking about the spock/data/seven of nine characters. Enough already, its been beaten to death!

Sigh, is crime getting worse in sf?

So here is what happened:
I was exiting the highway and pulled up to a stop sign, which happens to be right nex to a chevron that i usually fill up at. I started to talk to Jone, and I begin to hear firecrackers coming from outside the door to the left. I look out and i see flashes of light coming from a GUN! A person with a hood and baggy jeans was firing into a car. this was not more than 10 ft from me and jone in the car. He was firing "gangster" style into a escalade.. After he fired like 6-8 shots into the escalade, he started to run towards us, and then he looked right at us.. We looked straight back at him. of course it was super super dark, so we couldn't see anything. he then freaked out and started to run in a different direction. All of a sudden I had an instinct to try to find out the license plate or more information. But then I realized that Jone was in the car, and the smart thing would be to drive off and call the cops from a safe distance.
They never caught the guy, but man Im not filling up at that chevron no more.

So I was listening to this song. The guy sounds so much like Justin Timberlake, but I found it its Frankie J.

I just finished watching Pirates of the Carribean 2.

(WARNING SPOILERS BELOW!)

I think the concept for this movie was really good. I like the build up on how all pirates must unite to fight against the E/I company.

With that aside, I think here is what I would have changed...

I would have showed how or why Captain Jack owes a debt to Davy Jones.
I would have showed a conversation between Davy Jones and Bootstrap Bill stating their relationship, and how bootstrap bill made a deal with Davy Jones.
I would have got rid of the black mark... (did this even add to anything in the story?)
If Davy Jones can suddenly appear on other people's ship, why didn't he do it when the black pearl was running from it?
It would have made more sense for Captain Jack to say he was going to stay behind to give them a chance than for Kiera knightley to trick him, and more in character. Kiera knightley loves someone who is honorable, thats why she loves Wil Turner.
I would have shown at the very end that the compass show Captain Jack should have pointed to the black pearl.. that he wanted the black pearl more than anything.
I would have made the Commodore be the helper person to the E/I.

Also I would have gotten rid of the whole pigmy thing, or at least I would have made that part of the retrieving heart part, and the whole "picture" thing.
I also would have made Davy jones do like a "unikron on galvatron" thing to bootstrap bill to make him whip wil turner.

I have other thoughts.. but i think if they did this i would have liked it better.

Mei Long Village, and Yung he dou jang.

Yung He Dou Jang has really fresh ingredients for its dou jang, shao bing, and you tiao.. It just tasted like quality.. as if i was back in taiwan.

Han Yang beats down Brother's in san francisco. It was the best korean bbq food i have ever had.. As my music composer friend told me, Han Yang was recommended by a korean who lives in korea town.

I guess Im going to have to wait until my next pilgrimage...

So recently Ive been "drafted" by my office who are filled with indians, south africans, and englishmen to play Cricket..

at first I must say that i wasn't that interested.

Also, it was really hard as quickly I realized that i've had years of "baseball", and "softball" skills drilled into me.. After I every bat, i would drop the bat and run sideways towards first base. IN CRICKET, there apparently is only one other base,which is straight ahead.
Also you aren't suppose to drop the bat.. ANyways, I gave my office mates who are all "pro-cricket players" a good laugh.

It was definitely something I would try again..

So I just found out from my designer friend... that the civic center in san rafael was actually where gattaca was filmed. People who major in architecture go there just to check out the building. Amazing... a place where people might actually want to get jury duty just so they an go check out the place.

Engineering marvels = Osaka Airport

Now that I have directv, i'm starting to spend quite a bit of time watching the national geographic channel.

This week they talked about Osaka Airport. Osaka wanted to compete with Tokyo in attracting investors, and found that by building a bigger airport, they could. Unfortunately though, Osaka was completed crowded and had no space, so the engineers decided to build the airport in the middle of the ocean! It was just an amazing episode. They showed that in order to prevent sinking into the ocean, the japanese would actually cause the sinking to increase by sucking the water out of the sand before building on it. it was pretty unituitive. (Who would have thought of that!)
By making the foundation extremely sturdy, they were also able to withstand in 1995 the kobe earthquake, which had its epicenter only 18 miles from Osaka airport.

Anyways, as an engineer, I must have to give my hats off to the engineers who designed Osaka airport.

Justice League Unlimited

So this post isn't really about Justice League Unlimited. Actually, I'm trying to put in keywords for adsense. I noticed that my ads have been really good lately. The words "Free Star Trek Episodes" and "Download Star Trek Episodes from Google" really stand out to me. I know I'm not suppose to click on my own ads, but they were so great and interesting. One of them was a deal to get free Star Trek Voyager dvds by accomplishing 3 tasks. My brother did this once, I wonder if he ever got his free ipod.

Son of Worf

So ive been hooked onto Star trek DS9 lately. DS9's plotlines are much more complex than voyager or enterprise. Actually, I think the acting in DS9 is really first rate because its more about the characters carrying the storyline rather than the exploration of space.
Anyways... very few things will make me cry.. the scene in glory where all the white soldiers cheer the black soldiers on, the scene in "Soldier" where kurt russell is told to leave the encampment.

There is one scene where Worf allows Alexander to join the "House of Martok". First some background, Klingons believe in honor, and family tradition. Basically who your father was will also determines who you are as well. Because of this, most klingons introduce themselves as "Martok, son of someone". In the beginning of the episode, Alexander calls himself Alexander Rozhenko. Eventually in the episode, he accepts that worf is his father, and that worf also accepts him as his son. Finally, he calls himself Alexander, son of Worf and no longer Alexander Rozhenko. I guess the whole redemption story was played out really strong.

Relativistic Mass

When I get bored, I will look up random facts on the internet especially on wikipedia. My random fact for this week is about faster than light travel. The reason for my interested in FTL (faster than light) travel is that recently, I've been watching Star Trek DS9. Ive watched pretty much most of TNG, and Voyager. Some story lines in voyager and TNG were really good, but I never got into DS9. However, after seeing the Defiant blast through a Dominion ship, I became instantly hooked. I think the show really suffered in the beginning but only got better after the 4-5th season.

Anyways back to the faster than light travel. I think most people understand the problems with faster than light travel, i.e. infinite mass, time paradox etc etc..

I never took relativity and never took anything beyond physics AP. So my understanding maybe very rudimentary as supposed to a physics professor. Anyways, Ive found a formula to help explain the infinite mass...

This is quoted from Wikipedia...
"As v increases toward the speed of light c, the denominator of the right side approaches zero, and consequently

approaches infinity. The relativistic mass M is then formulated as:

where m is the rest mass."

So for a given as v gets really close to c, the denominator gets very very small, and therefore eventually the "Relativistic" Mass of the object gets very very big. Notice that when v is equal to c that the relativistic mass is infinite. However, in order to get there you need to accelerate v, and as you accelerate v, the mass of the object becomes infinite, and then becomes harder and harder to push.

Anyways, my other thought was.. if this was true, couldn't we develop artificial gravity fields just by accelerating mass to very fast speeds i.e. small particle accelerators with superconducting fields? Also, this seems very strangely similiar to the movement of electrons causing magnetic fields.

I can see how this can be related to unified field theory, but im sure some physicist has looked at this already.
